about

Forging a sound that melds frank and evocative lyrics charged with post punk sensibilities, The Sunday Estate play with a bittersweet dynamic - sunny and warm, with an engaging, subtle twist.

Laden with pounding drums, buzzsaw guitars and bright atmospherics, Pray For Rain is as triumphant as it is alarming. The track is a nihilistic outlook at an uncertain future plagued by environmental and political upheaval, whilst also an optimistic look at a world that could be.

Directed by Dane Wang, the video clip captures a journey of fear of the future, death, losing touch and being alone, and closes with the chaos and abandon of their frenetic live show.

Formed in 2018, The Sunday Estate spent the year perfecting their craft, before they took to the stage in 2019 as they grew in confidence and size. 2020 saw the release of three songs, I Don’t Want to Be Alone, Give Me (Something) and Let’s Stop Pretending, the strength of the tracks largely in frontman Conor O’Reilly’s voice, his depictions of the intimacy of home life and the trials of childhood and young adulthood. Following the growing buzz surrounding the band and their heaving live shows, The Sunday Estate recently signed to indie tastemakers, Mirror Music Group - Gang Of Youths, Middle Kids, Clea, Sloan Peterson and Charlie Collins.

Through Conor’s frank and evocative lyrics, the band’s weaving instrumentals. Ryan K Brennan’s masterful production, mixed with additional production from Oscar Dawson (Holy Holy), Pray For Rain is the exhilarating next chapter in the story of an act who are truly only just getting started.

lyrics

I don’t wanna die while I’m 25
And oh fuck yeah that’s scary
But honey you make me feel alive
Well who cares, the worlds gonna die in January
Matty said we’ve only got a thousand Monday’s left
So that’s why I care what I’m wearing
I’m at it again I’m pretending I’m so depressed
Maybe I’m not pretending

I don’t wanna cry for the rest of my life
Cause I know it’s overrated
And I’m just gonna shout until you start to listen
Because I’m so frustrated
And Scotty said the kids should stay in school instead
Cause learning is better than activism
But learning won’t matter when we are all dead
So fuck you and your cynicism

I won’t be caught in your blindside
Refusing to work to your time
Because denial is suicide
And I don’t wanna die
And I don’t wanna die x4
